Singapore: Casino Travel Guide to Marina Bay and Sentosa

Singapore legalized casino gambling only in 2010, after decades of prohibition. The country chose a strict regulatory approach, allowing exactly two integrated resort casinos. Marina Bay Sands in the central business district and Resorts World Sentosa on Sentosa Island both opened that year and have anchored Singapores casino tourism since.

Marina Bay Sands

Probably the worlds most photographed casino resort. The three towers topped by the SkyPark observation deck have become Singapores skyline icon. The casino floor is large, modern, and busy. The hotel, dining (multiple Michelin starred restaurants), shopping mall, and SkyPark infinity pool all compete with the gambling for visitor time.

Resorts World Sentosa

Located on Sentosa Island, more family-oriented than Marina Bay. The casino is here but shares attention with Universal Studios Singapore, S.E.A. Aquarium, and multiple themed dining and entertainment options. A better choice if you are traveling with non-gambling family members.

Entry rules for Singaporeans vs foreigners

Foreigners enter casinos free with passport. Singapore citizens and permanent residents must pay a daily entry levy (currently 150 SGD per day or 3,000 SGD per year). This is part of Singapores intentional discouragement of local gambling.

Dress code and etiquette

Smart casual minimum. No shorts, no flip-flops, no athletic wear. Singapore enforces this more strictly than many casino destinations. Some private salons require business attire.

What to expect

Strict regulation: no smoking on most gaming floors, modern surveillance, professional dealers. Less of the around-the-clock party atmosphere of Vegas; more of an upscale Asian business-traveler vibe. Excellent table games (especially baccarat); slot floors are smaller proportionally than in Vegas.
