Biloxi Mississippi: Gulf Coast Casino Destination

Biloxi, Mississippi, on the Gulf of Mexico coast, has become an unexpected American casino destination. Mississippi legalized riverboat gambling in 1990 and dockside casinos in 1993; Hurricane Katrina destroyed many casinos in 2005, but the city rebuilt with bigger, better resorts. As of 2026, it is the third-largest US casino market by revenue.

Major casinos

Beau Rivage Resort and Casino (MGM property): the largest and most upscale. Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Biloxi: distinctive, well-located on the beach. Harrah”s Gulf Coast: family-friendly with strong amenities. IP Casino Resort Spa: locally owned, popular with regulars. Boomtown Biloxi: smaller, more casual.

What sets Biloxi apart

Beach access. Most major casinos are on or directly across from the Gulf of Mexico, with white sand beaches and warm-water swimming. This combination of casino + beach is rare among US casino destinations.

Significantly lower prices than Vegas or Atlantic City. Hotel rooms USD 80-180. Table minimums often USD 5-15. Buffet pricing significantly lower.

Getting there

Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport handles regional flights. From New Orleans: 1.5 hours by car. From Houston: 6 hours. From Atlanta: 6 hours. Most visitors come from regional drives rather than fly-in destinations.

Beyond gambling

The Gulf Coast beaches, deep-sea fishing charters, casino-fronted golf courses, the Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum, day trips to New Orleans (90 minutes west). Tour boats to nearby barrier islands offer reef and wildlife experiences.

When to visit

Spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) offer the best weather: warm but not extreme. Summer is hot and humid; hurricane season runs June-November with peak risk in August-October. Winter is mild but can be cool and rainy.
