Resorts World Sentosa: Singapores Family Casino
Resorts World Sentosa opened in 2010, the same year as Marina Bay Sands, but with a notably different positioning. Located on Sentosa Island (a leisure island connected to mainland Singapore by a short causeway), Resorts World combines casino gaming with major theme parks and family attractions, making it the family-oriented alternative to Marina Bay Sands.
The casino
Around 500 gaming tables and 1,500 slot machines. Smaller than Marina Bay Sands but still substantial. Same Singapore casino regulations apply: foreigners enter free with passport, locals pay entry levy (150 SGD/day or 3,000 SGD annual), strict dress code (no shorts, no flip-flops).
Universal Studios Singapore
The major theme park within the Resorts World complex. Around 30 attractions across themed zones (Hollywood, New York, Sci-Fi City, Ancient Egypt, Lost World, Far Far Away, Madagascar). Smaller than Universal”s parks in the US or Japan but well-curated and modern. Most rides have shorter wait times than Universal Studios Hollywood or Orlando.
S.E.A. Aquarium
One of the worlds largest aquariums by water volume. Around 100,000 marine animals across 1,000 species. The Open Ocean Habitat is one of the largest single aquarium tanks ever built. Excellent for family visits, easily a half-day attraction on its own.
Other attractions
Adventure Cove Waterpark (water park with snorkeling experiences). Dolphin Island (interactive dolphin experiences). Trick Eye Museum (3D illusion art). Spa and wellness facilities. Multiple themed dining venues.
Hotels
Multiple hotel options ranging from family-oriented (Hard Rock Hotel Singapore, Hotel Michael) to luxury (Beach Villas, Equarius Hotel). Total around 1,500 rooms across the resort. Each hotel has a different aesthetic and target market.
Sentosa Island
The broader Sentosa Island has additional attractions: beaches at Siloso, Palawan, and Tanjong; the Skyride and Luge; multiple golf courses; boutique resorts beyond the Resorts World complex. Easily a 2-3 day destination on its own.
Getting there
Sentosa Express monorail connects to VivoCity mall on the mainland. Cable car from Mount Faber. Taxi or car via the Sentosa Causeway. Hotel guests get free monorail rides during their stay.
When to visit
Year-round destination but cooler months (November-February) offer the most comfortable weather for outdoor attractions. Singapore school holidays bring local crowds; international vacation periods bring overseas visitors.
